Degree MAP Instructions for UCC Proposals

Degree MAPs (Major Academic Plans)

A Degree MAP is a course plan that includes all requirements necessary to achieve a degree (Bachelor, Associate) or Certificate, and illustrates one arrangement of course sequencing and configuration.   MAPs are based on graduation requirements for each undergraduate program.

Current catalog year MAPS, a MAP template, and MAP creation instructions are housed on the Central Academic Advising (CAA) website.

Beginning with AY 2020-2021, departments within each of the colleges will update (or develop) undergraduate degree MAPs for each program.  Department chairs will arrange course requirements in a manner most beneficial to student learning and progression.  The MAP requirements are to match Degree Works curriculum by catalog year.

UCC Advising Representatives are available to assist the PO with any questions regarding the MAP.

Updating MAPs in conjunction with UCC Proposals

According to the Advising Questionnaire section of the Impact Statement (in Part D of the UCC Proposal Form), the PO must include a MAP with any proposal that changes curriculum. The PO should download the current catalog year MAP from the Office of Academic Advising website and update the MAP to show the proposed curriculum change(s), and then email the proposed updated MAP to maprepo@isu.edu by October 20. In the event a MAP does not exist for a particular program, the PO will download a MAP template, create the MAP, and email it to maprepo@isu.edu.

The current catalog year MAPs have been developed by each department, reviewed by Central Academic Advising (CAA) and Office of the Registrar liaisons, and accepted for catalog inclusion by the Undergraduate Curriculum Council (UCC). Academic requirements in the MAPs must match the requirements in the e-catalog and in Degree Works for each catalog year.

If inconsistencies or inaccuracies are discovered in the e-catalog, a Curriculum Council proposal may be required by the department to make the needed adjustments to a subsequent catalog.

Each MAP will include: 1) General Education requirements, 2) major/program degree requirements, 3) electives, and 4) university and program credit requirements within a given catalog year.

If curriculum changes are not required for a program in any given year, the department chair will indicate "No change" and forward the MAP to maprepo@isu.edu.  CAA and COT personnel will update the MAP's catalog year, add the newest general education link, and post to the CAA website by April of each year.
