SCORE'ing on Social Media

SCORE Career Path Intern
Hello, I’m Raquel! I am a Track and Field athlete and a Marketing major here at Idaho State University. In January, I accepted a job as Natalie’s career path intern without any idea of what the job would be like. We discussed some ideas back and forth, and after talking, we came up with a plan to increase SCORE’s presence on social media. Following Natalie around and observing what she does day to day for our athletes made me realize that it is no wonder she didn’t post lots on social media--she does so much! While Natalie continues to do lots for the athletes, I was behind a camera documenting all of the good that she is doing!
Before the Governor issued the stay at home order, SCORE held a 7am team meeting where the Volleyball team made breakfast burritos and after that, Natalie traveled to a community dance program to teach dancers about body image and how to fuel themselves properly. She also did food demos at the ISU Health Fair, went on grocery shopping trips with athletes, participated in videos with Dairy West, met with athletes about nutrition problems, and opened her home to small groups of athletes to teach them how to make easy crockpot meals.
As COVID-19 hit and everything changed on campus, we realized that social media and online meetings were going to be how SCORE would continue to connect with our athletes who were now all over the world. Natalie conducted online team talks and held one-on-one nutrition counseling through Zoom. The ISU gym fueling stations are closed, but we have started a Fuel the ROAR campaign that is encouraging ISU athletes to get in the kitchen and cook nutritious meals and snacks.
As part of #FueltheROAR, we have created food demonstration videos that are posted on Twitter @fuel_Bengals and on Instagram at fuel_Bengals. ISU Athletics is also posting these videos on their social media sites and on Facebook. And, through social media, we have been able to share events she has been to, recipes, tips, cooking ideas, and some interactions with the teams on campus! Social media has allowed her to showcase the hard work she does, and it allows others to benefit from the ideas for healthy meals and food tips!
