Specialized Accreditation

The Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) is a specialized accrediting agency that is nationally recognized by the US Department of Education (USDE) and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) to help assure the quality of physical therapy education programs. CAPTE grants specialized accreditation status to qualified entry-level education programs for both physical therapists and physical therapist assistants.

Licensing

Graduates of our program are eligible to sit for the national licensure examination for physical therapists which is administered by The Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy. The Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy develops and administers the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE) for physical therapists.

The program has determined that its curriculum meets the state educational requirements for licensure or certification in all states, the District of Colombia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands secondary to its accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education, based on the following:

CAPTE accreditation of a physical therapist or physical therapist assistant program satisfies state educational requirements in all states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Thus, students graduating from CAPTE-accredited physical therapist and physical therapist assistant education programs are eligible to take the National Physical Therapy Examination and apply for licensure in all states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. License to practice physical therapy is administered through individual states. Successful completion of this examination (NPTE), along with individual state board requirements, grants the status of licensed physical therapist (PT). In Idaho, the Idaho State Physical Therapy Licensing Board is housed in the Idaho Bureau of Occupational Licenses.
