The Mom of the Group

Hello All! My name is Karis Hoefer, and I am usually called the mom of the group because I always have the things that people need, and I am the one to ensure my friend's safety. On a typical day, you will find me in the library doing homework, hanging out with my friends, or on a walk around campus. I am a bagel enthusiast, and I love all reality TV!

I am a sophomore pursuing a nursing degree here at ISU! I love hiking, knitting, and being with people. I grew up in the beautiful Boise, Idaho and decided to come to ISU so that I could find my home away from home. Here at ISU, I am involved in the University Honors Program, and I like to attend every campus event that I am able to. I decided to become a peer mentor because I want to be more involved in the honors community and help guide incoming first-year students to life at ISU! I love the community I have found in the honors program, and it has made me survive college. I wish someone had told me before coming to college that you will constantly be making new friends, so always keep your mind open. Coming to college was one of the scariest things I have ever done, but it has been the best time of my life. During my first year, I have changed so much and found lifelong friendships.

In the future, I would like to be a labor and delivery nurse or a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) nurse! I have been a nanny for the last eight years and love caring for children. I would also love to be a travel nurse and live in places nationwide. Moving away from Boise has shown me that I want to continue exploring and living in many other areas. I cannot wait to meet all my mentees and hopefully make lifelong friends!
