Lost and Overwhelmed, but Doing Her Best

Hey friends! My name is Jordan Mayo, and this will be my second year as an Honors Peer Mentor. In the fall, I will start my third year at ISU. After many crises and advising meetings, I have landed on the Health Science major with an OT concentration. Since my interests are vast and my career plans are blurry, I also decided to pursue Psychology and Community & Public Health minors and a Medical Anthropology certificate. While that might seem overwhelming, let it be known that I have also considered pursuing theatre, English, cosmetology, and even video editing. Compared to that, I believe my current status is much more digestible. Plus, if things go according to plan, a semester abroad and still graduating on time should be in my future! Outside of school, reading, singing, playing Stardew Valley, and watching mediocre movies with my friends are some of my passions. The Twilight Saga is one of my favorite cinematic trainwrecks. If you were to see any of my written notes, you would also witness my doodles of bizarre faces with strong features.

At ISU, I have been involved in numerous ways. In the spring and summer of 2023, I had a work study position with ISU’s scene shop to help create sets for the different theatrical productions. Regarding the Honors Program, I am not only a Peer Mentor, but am also a Student Representative for the UHP Advisory Committee. With the campus as my host site, I have also served as a Mental Health Motivator with AmeriCorps. Through my service, I acquired multiple trainings such as suicide prevention/intervention, mental health first aid, and even CPR. Overall, I mainly focused on engaging with the community to help fight mental health stigma and give out resources. The Ross Park Drive Inn is a seasonal job I hold as a jack of all trades, and I recently started working at a childcare center. I check my email relatively often, so feel free to ask me any questions. As someone who is in a constant state of confusion, I love collaborating in order to answer the unknown!
