I absolutely love the field of early childhood care and education and am passionate about passing this love along to students. Upon graduating, I landed my dream job working for the College of Education in their lab school as an infant/toddler teacher, preschool teacher, parent involvement coordinator, and center manager/director. During this time, I also taught many classes for the College of Education as an adjunct instructor and still continue to do so today. One of my most proud moments is seeing the children I taught in my career grow up to be successful and remember their time with me as their teacher when they were little. I also have the same experiences now when I see my graduates in the field making an impact on children’s lives. I am proud to be a part of this program in my current position as Clinical Assistant Professor and program coordinator. This program has graduated hundreds of quality students who have gone on to have positive influences on children, families, and early childhood programs all over the country.

Being apart of the field of early childhood is one of the things I am most proud of. This work is extremely important and rewarding. My first teaching experience was right out of high school with the Community Building Children’s Center where the program founder, Lynn Sanders, had been my childhood preschool teacher! It was during these first years that I decided to pursue my degree in Children’s Studies, and then continue on to a Master’s in Education with an emphasis on Human Development.

My teaching philosophy is rooted in the Reggio Emilia approach; an approach based on the teaching practices in Reggio Emilia, Italy. I hope to share my passion of using the arts as forms of communication, doing project based work to create deep investigations, and building communities with unconditional positive regard with my ECCE students. One of my favorite positions I have held was being the Art Studio teacher at the Children’s Center. It is here where I was able to hone these passions I hope to share. I am honored to be an instructor in this program. It has a history of being an early childhood leader in our Pocatello community. Graduates of this program become early childhood experts and leaders, and are making positive impacts across the country.
