Digital Storage Task Force

ISU’s new Digital Storage Task Force will begin with a kickoff meeting March 15th. The task force was formed after examining the recent data storage limits* Google placed upon ISU.

ISU’s Chief Information Officer, Renae Scott, explained, “ISU needs a holistic, strategic plan for how Digital Storage is purchased and consumed across campus. We have pieced together multiple cloud solutions over the years without taking the time to step back and create a strategic plan.”

Scott wants the Task Force to remedy this situation, starting with the following charge:

  • identify all digital storage needs for campus
  • inventory all ISU current digital storage solutions
  • recommend holistic digital storage solutions
  • recommend best practices for digital storage
  • determine financial impact of recommendations
  • recommend policy

The following people will serve on the task force, chosen to represent the university’s varied digital and data storage needs:

Renae Scott, ITS

Bob Houghton, COB, Faculty Senate

Lori Austill, ITRC

Brennan Pickett, MarCom

Lyle Castle, Dean's Council

Michael Ennis, Research

Ray Ludwig, HR, Operations

Karen Matteucci, Advancement

Misty Olmsted, General Counsel, HIPAA

Patience Ternus, Finance

Keith Weber, GIS

Sandra Shropshire, Library

Sarah Godsey, COSE, Research

Scott hopes the task force can meet its charge by Spring of 2025.

*Google will no longer provide ISU with unlimited data storage as part of our education service agreement with them. Adjustments may need to be made to your Google storage to avoid losing access to important files. Access to Google Photos will be turned off for students, faculty, and staff April 15th. All ISU Google Accounts will need to be under their storage limits by May 7, 2024.  Alumni and retirees are on a separate timeline.
