Hero is the Veteran Student Services Center's facility and emotional support dog. As a Labradoodle entering her 10th year, she actively supports veteran and military-connected students. In 2014, we chose Hero after researching emotional support animals for individuals dealing with post-traumatic stress or anxiety. Her hypoallergenic and emotionally sensitive nature, combined with expert training, makes her perfect for providing comfort and companionship.

Unlike service dogs, which assist one specific person, facility and emotional support dogs like Hero serve the entire community. At ISU, Hero engages with veterans and student service members through play, walks, and companionship, offering much-needed emotional support.
