McNair Scholars Program Services

Research Involvement


With the support of a faculty mentor, McNair Scholars participate in research - with opportunities to publish and present at local, regional and national research conferences.

Graduate School Preparation


Through a series of McNair-guided coursework, scholars will receive GRE test preparation and tailored workshops to prepare for graduate school applications including research experience.

Financial Support


Get paid to do research! TRIO McNair Scholars receive $2,800 to conduct research in the summer; assistance in applying for fellowships, aid and other
funding, as well as application fee waivers to eligible graduate school program.

The McNair Scholars Program at Idaho State University is a federally funded TRIO Program to help students participate in future doctoral studies. The McNair Scholars Program is highly competitive and seeks candidates who are:

  • U.S. Citizen or permanent legal resident
  • Rising sophomores or current juniors
  • 3.2 GPA or higher
  • Enrolled full-time at ISU
  • First Generation college student
    AND
    Meet Limited income guidelines
    OR
  • Belong to a group that is underrepresented in graduate
    education(African American/Black, American Indian/
    Alaskan Native, Hispanic/Latino, or Native Hawaiian/
    Pacific Islander)

The TRIO McNair Scholars Program identifies eligible students through the pre-application process. Once students complete the pre-application process, the program coordinator will meet with students to guide them through the following steps:

  • Personal Statement
  • Resume/CV
  • 2 Faculty Recommendations 
  • Income Verfication
  • Copy of College Transcripts
  • Program Interview Preparation

Once all steps have been completed, an interview will occur with the Program Director for admissions.
