ISU English Placement
Placement into ISU First-Year Writing Courses
The Write Class™ (isu.thewriteclass.org) is an online first-year writing course placement system that integrates various types of data to create a personalized course placement for each student. It integrates and analyzes each student's standardized test scores; high school GPA (if applicable); writing and reading history; and preparedness for each course.
The Write Class™ may be taken only once, and placement results are final. Students must use their ISU login and password to access the system. This process will take between 20-30 minutes, and students should have their high school grades and standardized test scores (if applicable) with them at the time they go through this placement process. Based on the information students provide in The Write Class™, they will be placed into ENGL 1101, 1101P, or 1102. This placement process must be completed before students may enroll in the appropriate course.
