Student Affairs is proud to announce that an article prepared by Staci Phelan, Associate Vice President of Enrollment Management, has been featured in the Spring 2021 College & University Journal: “One Enrollment Management Team’s Response to COVID-19: An Interview with James Martin, Debbie Green, Nicole Joseph, and Brooke Barber” (volume 96, issue 2, pp. 24-30). In the article, Staci’s team shares the challenges they faced in moving Enrollment Management services online at the start of the shelter-at-home order, adapting everything from assumptions about how they serve students to the expectations that underlie their own sense of performance and collaboration. Consider these concluding remarks from James Martin, Financial Aid Director:
For me, personally, I am not used to being completely dependent on technology. I am more of a hands-on person, so it has been a big learning curve for me. When you don’t see people every day, the job feels so impersonal, and that was the biggest stressor for me as a supervisor. I am proud of my staff. They moved mountains to get everything done for the fall, and the number of [financial aid] awards they managed to complete in such a disjointed working situation has been impressive. They stepped up and more than met my expectations. (p. 30)
