TRIO-Student Support Services Grant Renewed
October 7, 2020
Idaho State University Access and Opportunity Programs is proud to announce that ISU has received a renewal TRIO-Student Support Services (SSS) grant in the amount of $1,704,295 over the next 5-years. This grant is critical to serving ISU-Pocatello campus first generation, limited income students, as well as students with disabilities with critical student success services. This grant has been continuously funded at Idaho State University since 1968 and is one of the oldest programs in the country.
Sari Byerly, Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs states, “The TRIO-SSS program has become a hallmark of the first generation student experience at Idaho State University. These grant competitions are incredibly tough to keep year after year, with critical performance measures required from the federal government. The ISU TRIO-SSS staff have worked hard over the years to show successful retention and academic support services for ISU students who are enrolled in the TRIO-SSS program. They should be commended for helping keep this long standing program at ISU.”
The TRIO-SSS program is accepting applications for its spring cohort. This program provides supplemental academic advising, one-on-one tutoring, financial support to select students, critical staff and peer support through its various workshops, and a welcoming and supportive environment for students who are the first in their families to work towards obtaining a college degree.
Denise Tambasco, TRIO-SSS/McNair Scholars Director adds, “The TRIO-SSS program continues to deliver powerful outcomes which result in higher retention rates and better academic standing for students that participate in our program. We have made tremendous strides to serve out students in new and innovative ways over the past year and we are looking forward to the opportunity to serve many more students in the coming years. I would encourage any first generation, limited income, or student with a disability to connect with our program to learn how we can help you discover your path, achieve your goals, and stay on track.”
