Remind students that Friday, April 7, is the last day to withdraw from late 8-week courses. Withdrawing from a course can be a good decision, but it needs to be an informed decision because it may impact financial aid or progress toward a degree. Students should always consult an advisor about their course schedule.
Do you know a student who is looking for summer employment? TRIO Upward Bound is looking for college students or recent graduates to mentor high school Scholars in their summer 2023 program.
The TRIO Upward Bound Programs at Idaho State University are looking for Residential and Academic Mentors for the 2023 Summer Academy, which takes place on the Pocatello Idaho State University campus. In this summer program, high school Scholars take classes that help with performance in high school subjects or expose them to subjects that are commonly required as general education courses in college. Scholars live in residence halls on ISU’s campus and return home for weekends, with transportation provided to each community. Each evening, Scholars participate in a variety of recreational activities on and off campus. Activities and time in the residence halls are supervised by trained UB/UBMS staff.
As an Academic or Residential mentor, you would mentor a group of local high school students through classes and/or group activities. The positions are paid (hourly or stipend), and the job would last seven weeks, from June 12 to June 29, with room and board included. Applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis until all positions are filled. To apply or learn more about this opportunity, go to UB/UBMS Mentors Summer 2023 Application (google.com).
Registration opened by class level, beginning Monday, April 3, so now is a great time to check in with students with whom you are meeting. Student can view the class registration opening dates on the ISU Academic Calendar, but meeting with a professional advisor is a great idea! Booking an appointment is as easy as visiting the Advisor Directory Landing Page.
With just one more month to go, now is also a good time to check in with students about their wellbeing. Remind them that good nutrition, exercise, and sleep are all critical elements of academic success. If they are having trouble with any of these, encourage them to reach out to an advisor for supportive resources. In the meantime, lack of sleep and the demands of study and work may take a toll. If your student just needs to talk about how to maintain mental wellness at this challenging time of the semester, check out the following resources.
Mental health services are free to all ISU students in Pocatello, Idaho Falls, Meridian, and to out-of-state students. ISU Counseling and Testing Services (CATS) would like to remind all students who are enrolled in the current semester (part-time or full-time) that they are eligible for free, confidential counseling services. CATS offers individual and group counseling, as well as Biofeedback Training. Crisis intervention services are available Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. To establish services, students may contact the CATS office on the campus at which they attend classes or by visiting www.isu.edu/ctc.
