August Feature Service of the Month: Pond Student Union Pull up a chair and make yourself at home
Many of you know a great deal about our Idaho State student unions because you have drawn upon our space, equipment, and staffing for your events. Students and staff who are not utilizing the facilities for events, often grab a meal, conduct business at the Lookout Credit Union, pick up papers at the Copy Center, or ship packages at the Mail Center. It feels like we are an open book—the doors are literally open at all hours of day, Monday-Sunday. And, as union staff, sometimes we assume that this means you know everything about what we do.
However, there is more to the Unions than the sum total of our spaces and services, and you may have already begun to pick up on that. For example, have you noticed the repetitive use of the word “unions”? Many people do not know that Union facilities include the atrium of the Rendezvous and the Bennion Student Union on the Idaho Falls Campus. While the Pocatello staff manage both the Pond Student Union and the Rendezvous atrium, the Idaho Falls campus has a staff that operates the Bennion, paralleling the services and opportunities for our Idaho Falls campus.
If you have used the Unions to host your event, you know that there are many staff who work hard to ensure your event is successful, from the scheduling and appointment of the space to the quick tutorials on how to run presentations on the in-room equipment. There are staff who provide entertainment and educational services for our students at the Games Center, Craft Shop, and Outdoor Adventure Program. In addition to supporting events, employees often serve as sources of frontline information. If you don’t know where to find a building, have questions about the last day to drop a class, are looking for information on the types of testing services offered, or want to know when the next Chrome in the Dome will take place, staff in the Unions will help you find the answers.
At all of our locations, our Unions staff work to create an atmosphere in which students and staff feel welcome. The Unions are the living rooms of our campuses. These are the places where the members of our campus community pull up a chair, take a sip from a cup of coffee, and enjoy feeling at home.
Come on in and pull up a chair. We’ll be waiting for you.
