A MONTH OF HONORING
October 26, 2020
The month of November is extremely important to the Veteran and military-connected community. Veterans Day, observed on November 11, is an official United States holiday that honors people who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces, also known as Veterans. While Memorial Day honors those who died while serving, Veterans Day is our opportunity to honor and recognize Veterans who are the students, colleagues, and community members that we are blessed to work with every day.
At one time or another, these individuals left their previous lives and took an oath, made a pledge, and signed a blank check to the nation and their fellow citizens. They were (and are) willing to give everything, up to and including their lives, to defend the freedoms that we all enjoy. During their service, they gained skills and had experiences that enriched their lives. Following their service, when they chose to join the civilian workforce or seek and education through their Military Education Benefits (GI Bill, etc.), we became the beneficiaries of their well-developed dedication and devotion to service, and are able to glean from their incredible skillsets. In short, we are extremely blessed to have Veterans, Active Duty Service members, and their military-connected family counted amongst the members of the greater Bengal Family.
As a division of Student Affairs, the Veteran Student Services Center (VSSC) places immense emphasis on the inclusion and support of military-connected students and their families. We are effective only because of the tremendous support and cooperation from our Student Affairs partners. So, on this Veterans Day, please thank the Veterans in your life, on-campus, in our community, and most specifically, in your own families. Take a moment to recognize how they have contributed to the enrichment of ISU and our country. It is an honor to serve those who have served, and we thank everyone in the Division of Student Affairs for your willingness to nurture and improve the lives of our defenders of freedom.
On behalf of the Veteran Student Services Center Team, Thank you!
