Biomedical Research at ISU
Biomedical research at Idaho State University is conducted by researchers in several colleges and departments, with individual laboratory and collaborative projects supported by intramural and extramural grant awards. In addition, ISU faculty and students are supported by an ISU subaward with funding provided by a current award to the Idaho IdEA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE), and administered through the University of Idaho.
Active biomedical research programs are evident throughout the ISU community. For example, one can learn more about projects in pharmakokinetics, aging, and drug design in the Department of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences in the College of Pharmacy. Projects in the Department of Psychology in the College of Arts and Letters include investigations of neural development and extending to human based studies relevant to rural reproductive and mental health. In the College of Science and Engineering, several Departments contribute to ISU biomedical research. In the Department of Biological Sciences, projects investigating pathogenic microbiology and phage biology, environmental toxicology, neural development, and neurophysiology are described in more detail. The Department of Chemistry sponsors projects with relevance to microbial molecular biology and environmental toxicities including microplastics. Finally, biomedical research at ISU is also conducted in a variety of projects within the Division of Health Sciences.
