Idaho State University Clinical Psychology Students Achieve 100% Match in APPIC Internships

Six clinical psychology doctoral students have successfully matched with their top-choice internships through the competitive APPIC process for the 2025 academic year.

We are thrilled to announce that all six of Idaho State University's clinical psychology doctoral students have successfully matched with their top-choice Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC) internships for the 2025 academic year. 

The APPIC is a non-profit organization in the United States that coordinates the internship application process for doctoral-level psychology students. It provides a centralized application system, the APPIC Match, for students seeking internship placements in clinical, counseling, and school psychology programs. The organization aims to ensure that students receive high-quality training, while also helping internship sites find suitable candidates for their programs.

The APPIC internship match is a highly competitive process, and matching with a reputable internship is a significant milestone for psychology students, as it is an essential step in their professional development and training.

Dr. Steven Lawyer, Director of Clinical Training for the ISU Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology, expressed his pride in the cohort.

Ailun Li, one of the matched students, shared her thoughts:

"Successfully matching with an internship is a big step for me since it allows me to move forward with my training. This matching process is quite stressful because it is very competitive. The most challenging part is doing multiple interviews within a week. Fortunately, ISU's clinical psychology program has provided me with great training opportunities and knowledge, so I feel confident during the interview process. Regarding the internship, I am most excited about moving to a bigger city and working with diverse client populations. For students applying next year, I would highly recommend that they focus on the training experiences they want to gain while looking for internship sites."
