Coupled Resonance with Resonance Boxes
PIRA 3B70.10
Shown at right are resonance boxes. The depth of the cavity in each box is equal to one-quarter of the wavelength of the sound produced by the tuning forks. The frequency of the tuning fork on the left is adjustable with movable weights on each tine. When tuned to the same frequency, when the fork on one box is struck with the rubber hammer, the other fork will vibrate in resonance.
This can be easily shown by silencing the fork that was initially struck by grabbing the tines. The sound from the second unstruck fork is clearly heard.
