Shown at right are resonance boxes. The depth of the cavity in each box is equal to one-quarter of the wavelength of the sound produced by the tuning forks. The frequency of the tuning fork on the left is adjustable with movable weights on each tine. Beats resulting from frequency differences of 0.1 to 3 Hz are easily discernible.
