Filll the back of the tennis ball cannon with ethyl alcohol. Note that it is important to let the alcohol sit in the cannon for a few minutes to allow for a vapor to build up so that the cannon can actually be lit easily. When the tennis ball is shot out of the cannon the tube itself will move backwards as a result of Newton's Third Law.
