Materials: PVC Cutters, Long PVC with Wood Head

This demonstration uses a piece of PVC, a weighted block of wood, and a set of PVC cutters. The center of mass is found. As the 'sledge' balances, the students are asked if the two sides weigh the same. The PVC handle is then cut at the center of gravity, and two students given either part. The masses of the two pieces are then compared.
