This simple motor is made from a D battery, two paper clips, a square refrigerator magnet, and 1 m of 24 awg enameled solid core copper wire. The commutator is a simple shut-off of the current for half of each loop rotation, achieved by only shaving off half of the enamel where the wire touches one paper clip.
