Jumping Wire

Suspend the Pasco Variable-Gap Magnet vertically with the use of a threaded rod as shown above.  Position the Pasco Jumping Wire Accessory so that the horizontal section of the hanging loop is between the magnets, and  connect it to a variable 12 V DC power supply.

Have students predict which way the wire will jump given the directions of the current and the magnetic field.
