2019 Professional Achievement Award
Joan Agee honored with distinguished contributions to the College of Nursing
POCATELLO - Dr. Joan Agee, a Class of 2000 Master of Science in Nursing Administration graduate of the Idaho State University College of Nursing, has accepted the 2019 Professional Achievement Award. The Professional Achievement Award is an annual award that recognizes alumni who have made valuable and distinguishable contributions to Idaho State University. A recipient is selected by the ISU Alumni Association each year, in conjunction with each of ISU’s nine colleges, and Joan Agee was honored with this distinction for the College of Nursing in March. She will be recognized at a ceremony sponsored by ISU’s Kasiska Division of Health Sciences in May, for her dedication and work within the field of nursing.
Agee received a Bachelor of Science in nursing from University of Alaska, Anchorage in 1990, Master of Science in nursing administration from ISU in 2000, and completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in health systems leadership from Gonzaga University in 2016. After learning of the Professional Achievement Award in a letter from ISU President Kevin Satterlee, Agee responded, “I am thrilled and honored to have received notification of my selection as the 2019 Professional Achievement Award recipient for the College of Nursing.”
Originally from Nebraska, Agee worked for Alaska Regional Medical Center, and for nearly 20 years at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston, ID. She currently lives in Nampa, ID and works as the chief operating officer/chief nursing officer for St. Luke’s Health System there. Dr. Agee says she always wanted to be a nurse because she really likes to work with people. “It’s funny, there were no healthcare workers or nurses in my family growing up, but I just always knew that I wanted to be a nurse,” Agee explains. “I really like people and enjoy being able to make a positive influence on someone's life.”
To be nominated for this award there are a few qualifications the recipient has to have, which according to nominator Karen Neill, associate dean of academic affairs and professor for the College of Nursing, Agee not only meets but vastly exceeds. Nominees must be an alumnus of Idaho State University, out of school for at least 10 years, and have shown significant success or accomplishments in the nominating field. “Dr. Joan Agee represents the outcomes desired for nurses earning the Master of Science in nursing degree, and that is in making critical contributions in the health care system, demonstrating flexible, innovative, and exemplary leadership for improving outcomes and elevating care. I have worked with Joan as President of Nurse Leaders of Idaho [for which she is President Elect], and the Idaho Center for Nursing - she is energetic, vibrant, and professional,” stated Neill.
The Professional Achievement Award is a great honor. Joan has done many great things in her career and for the College of Nursing. We appreciate the contributions she has made and wish her the best of luck!
