Profile
Dr. Omotayo Omotowa is an Assistant Professor at Idaho State University (ISU) School of Nursing and teaches in the graduate programs. She has taught in both the undergraduate and graduate programs simultaneously before fully becoming a graduate programs faculty. Prior to 2023/2024 academic year, Dr. Omotowa was a Clinical Associate Professor between 2021 and 2023; her career status transferred from clinical track to tenure-track in 2023. She previously served as the Interim Ph.D. Program Coordinator.
Dr. Omotowa is particularly interested in the quality of care outcomes of older adults residing in nursing homes, staffing standards/levels in nursing homes, and health and aging policy. Dr. Omotowa has served on the Thomas geriatric symposium planning committee, geriatric certificate advisory board, open educational resource committee, health fair planning committee, ISU academic dishonesty board, and until recently, as a member and vice-chair of the ISU General Education Requirement Committee. She is currently on the committee for exploring health sciences partnership with the University of Namibia. At the community level, Dr. Omotowa was a member of Idaho Falls Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) advisory board and an assistant Long-Term Care Ombudsman (LTCO). At the state level, Dr. Omotowa has been a member and, currently a vice-chair of Idaho State Board of Nursing Home Administrators. Dr. Omotowa has and continues to serve on committees and councils in the School of Nursing and the College of Health. Her service includes being a member and/or chair on dissertation committees, promotion committees, search committees and mentoring of undergraduate students, graduate students, and young faculty. Dr. Omotowa has also performed the role of an external promotion reviewer for nursing professors at other universities. She was also a liaison officer for the School of Nursing and multiple undergraduate clinical sites.
Dr. Omotowa has authored/co-authored published articles, authored and co-authored grants including grants submitted to the National Institute of Health (NIH R15) and Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI), Idaho State University Faculty Seed Grant Program, and the College of Health Research Grant (funded). She served as an editorial board member for the International Journal of Nursing and Health Care Research and participated in the review of faculty grant proposals, moderated podium presentation, and presented at the 3rd International Aging & Gerontology Conference (podium), STTI Theta Upsilon induction ceremony (oral), LTCO regional meeting (oral), Idaho State University (posters), and ANA/NLI conference (poster).
Professionally, Dr. Omotowa is an active member of American Nurses Association/Idaho Nurses Association and Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI), Theta Upsilon Chapter. She served as her Chapter’s former governance chair and leadership succession chair. She was also a member of the Nurse Leaders of Idaho,
Dr. Omotowa received her BSN from Lewis Clark State College, Lewiston, Idaho; MSN and PhD in Nursing from Walden University, Minneapolis, Minnesota. Prior to receiving her nursing degrees, Dr. Omotowa received her B.Sc. Political Science from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria, Master in Public Administration from the University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria, and Master of Arts in Political Science from the University of Idaho.
