Dr. Barnes is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing at Idaho State University. She is dual-certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), though she primarily focuses on mental health. Dr. Barnes has a particular interest and expertise in treating substance use disorders and treatment-resistant depression.

She is an active member of the Nurse Practitioners of Idaho, the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties, and the Neuroscience Education Institute.
