The Idaho Museum of Natural History joins Smithsonian Magazine's 14th annual Museum Day
September 12, 2018
Free admission on Sept. 22 with a downloadable Museum Day ticket; See the unveiling of the Idaho’s Dinosaur Exhibit!
POCATELLO — The Idaho Museum of Natural History on the Idaho State University campus will open its doors free of charge to all Museum Day ticketholders on Saturday Sept. 22, as part of Smithsonian magazine’s 14th annual Museum Day, a national celebration of boundless curiosity in which participating museums emulate the free admission policy at the Smithsonian Institution’s Washington D.C.-based museums.
Museum Day represents a nationwide commitment to access, equity and inclusion. More than 250,000 people downloaded tickets for last year’s event, and Museum Day 2018 is expected to attract more museumgoers than ever before.
"With over 700,000 unique, and sometimes weird, specimens in the Idaho Museum of Natural History collections, visitors of all ages learn something new about Idaho's rich natural history in each exhibit display. I encourage everyone to take advantage of Museum Day. Now is the perfect time, there is so much to see," said Terri Bergmeier, IMNH development director.
Visitors to the gallery will have the opportunity to enjoy the Incredible Horse, Craters of the Moon, and Idaho’s Dinosaur exhibits. The Incredible Horse follows the evolution, extinction, and return of the horse in North America. Craters of the Moon is a photography and poetry exhibit exploring the amazing wonders of the Craters of the Moon National Monument. Finally, visitors will have the opportunity to see the unveiling of Idaho’s Dinosaur, the Oryctodromeus. This exhibit was created by Dino Camp students who ranged in age from 10 to 15 and is the first of its kind anywhere. The exhibit features a mother Oryctodromeus and her two juveniles in their burrow. The IMNH has been serving Idaho since 1934. To learn more about the IMNH please visit imnh.isu.edu.
Museum Day tickets are now available for download at Smithsonian.com/MuseumDay. Visitors who present a Museum Day ticket will gain free entrance for two at the IMNH on Sept. 22. One ticket is permitted per email address.
