Idaho Museum of Natural History to display Idaho State University history
September 7, 2017
POCATELLO – The Idaho Museum of Natural History on the campus of Idaho State University will open “I Love ISU: the Exhibit” just in time for ISU Homecoming 2017. The exhibit will run Sept. 16 – Oct. 8.
The “I Love ISU: the Exhibit” explores the history of ISU through historic photographs, artifacts and stories. ISU opened in 1901 on 10 acres of land east of the Oregon Short Line Railroad tracks donated by the residents of Pocatello. From its humble beginnings as a school for vocational training with four faculty and fewer than 100 students, ISU has grown into a research institution serving over 12,000 students in undergraduate, master’s and doctoral programs. The university has witnessed four name changes and weathered the adversity of two world wars and the ebb and flow of the economic fortunes of the Intermountain West.
The museum collaborated with the ISU Oboler Library Special Collections and Alex Bolinger, College of Business assistant professor, to create this exhibit. The library provided the images and Bolinger helped with the context of each of the images.
In honor of this new exhibit, the museum will host the event “Feed Your Inner Bengal,” Sept.18 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participants can fill up on lunch and expand their Bengal pride. The gallery admission for this event is $1 and includes a free lunch, which will include hotdogs, chips, drinks and Otter Pops.
The Idaho Museum of Natural History is open six days a week, closed Mondays. Since 1934, the museum has offered unique, educational and fun opportunities to visitors, classrooms, tourists and the public at large.
