Kathleen Kole de Peralta publishes peer-reviewed chapter on environmental conservation during the construction of Colonial Lima, Peru, 1535-1625.

Dr. Kathleen Kole de Peralta published a peer-reviewed chapter, "Building the City of Kings: Environmental Consciousness and the Construction of Colonial Lima, Peru, 1525-1625," in the edited collection Paraguay and Peru: Political, Social and Environmental Issues published by Nova Science Publishers in July 2017. Her article engages three recent trends in environmental history: transnational, cultural and sensory. Using this framework, she reconstructs the foundation of Spanish Lima, Peru and its edification. Kole de Peralta argues that while building the City of Kings, Lima's town councilmen demonstrated an early-modern environmental consciousness articulated via municipal policies regarding tree extraction, adobe production, and architectural styles.
