Idaho State University to present Humanities Café surrounding the role of art and dance in the community on Feb. 9
January 30, 2017
POCATELLO – Idaho State University’s College of Arts and Letters will hold its third Humanities Café of the year on Feb. 9 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Pond Student Union Bengal Theater. The event will include dance performances and a discussion, led by dance professor Aaron Wood, about the role of art and dance in the community titled, “Dance and Embodied Activism.”
Lunch will be provided at 11:30 a.m. in the Pond Student Union Heritage Room, and presentations will begin at noon in the Bengal Theater.
This event will feature dance performances from ISU students and faculty, and students from the Native Americans United student organization. The students will perform “The Genius of the Crowd,” a contemporary dance piece choreographed by Wood. The piece has original video projections and sound score, also created by Wood, and has been selected to be performed at the 2017 ACDA Northwest Regional Conference held in Eugene, Oregon, in March.
The College of Arts and Letters presents the Humanities Café series every year, surrounded by a particular theme. This year the Department of History is hosting the series with the theme of diversity. The events bring together artists, musicians, poets, authors, storytellers and dancers from a diverse range of ethnic and religious backgrounds. Each Humanities Café is free and open to the public.
Sponsors for the Humanities Café include the ISU Diversity Resource Center, the Department of History and the Idaho Humanities Council.
