ISU Master of Social Work program accepting applications for Fall 2018 semester

December 14, 2017

Idaho State University is accepting applications for the new Master of Social Work (MSW) program that starts this fall.

Idaho State University is accepting applications for the new Master of Social Work (MSW) program that starts this fall.

To apply, students must have a 3.0 or higher GPA for the last 60+ semester or 90+ quarter credits, and submit GRE or MAT scores if applicable, a personal statement, three letters of reference, a criminal background check and a resume. Students can apply at isu.edu/apply. The deadline is Feb. 15.

Two options for the MSW degree will be offered. First, a one-year, advanced standing MSW program for students with a bachelor’s degree in social work from ISU or another accredited program, and a minimum GPA of 3.0. Second, a traditional two-year program for students who have completed non-social work bachelor’s degrees.

The MSW program will have an emphasis in three areas, which reflect current department strengths: clinical work with children and families including child welfare, gender and sexuality, and forensic social work.

Students will have the opportunity to develop relational skills and integrative knowledge through seated, face-to-face practice courses and quality field placements. Faculty will be accessible to students and offer interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary knowledge and skills.

The Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) is the accrediting body for all MSW programs in the United States. Quality is assured through accreditation as programs are required to meet specific components, which are regularly monitored.  The ISU MSW program will be taking steps as outlined by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) to enter candidacy and complete their accreditation process.

If you are interested in more information about the MSW program, contact Kevin Owens at (208) 282-3377 or owenkevi@isu.edu. Interested students can find more information at isu.edu/sociology.
