POCATELLO – Elizabeth Brunner, a professor in the Idaho State University Department of Communication, Media and Persuasion, recently received a $3,500 grant from the Idaho Humanities Council to fund her travel to China to conduct research for her next book.
Brunner’s book titled “Ziran: China’s Changing Concept of Nature and Its Environmental Impacts” will explore how 1.35 billion people living in China are changing how they think about nature – from that which must be conquered to an invaluable resource that must be preserved at all costs even if it means slowing economic growth. As the country with the largest carbon footprint, these changes will not just impact China’s environment, but the entire globe.
During her trip to China, Brunner will travel to Beijing, Shenzhen, Xiamen, Dalian and Yunnan Province among other places to collect the data she needs to complete the book.
“The Chinese people and their leaders are beginning to look at nature differently and these changes will shape future interactions with the environment in consequential ways,” Brunner said. “I am thrilled to have IHC’s support to conduct the important on the ground research required for a project like this.”
