Informational meetings set Sept. 13-14 for ISU 2017 student European trip to Spain, Portugal

September 7, 2016

POCATELLO – Informational meetings for the Student Global Leadership Program will be held Sept. 13 and 14 for students interested in enrolling for an opportunity to travel to Spain and Portugal in May.

The Student Global Leadership Program is directed by the Division of Student Affairs and focuses on student leadership development. It involves a series of seminars led by local leaders and political figures that explore leadership theories, concepts, values, and styles.

The informational meetings, sponsored by ISU Credit Union, will take place on Sept. 13 at 12:15 p.m. and 6 p.m. and Sept. 14 at 12:15 p.m. in the Pond Student Union Heritage Room. Any students interested in enrolling in the program are encouraged to attend.

ISU Credit Union is providing scholarships of $1,500 for the first 20 students to enroll. The price of the international trip is $3,889 if enrolled by Sept. 30, or $2,389 for those with scholarships. Payment plans are available.

Patricia Terrell, vice president of student affairs, attended this summer’s international trip to London, Paris and Amsterdam, and said it was a wonderful experience to be surrounded by so much history.

“One of the highlights was learning about the history of London, England and seeing how it influenced our own,” Terrell said.

She also said it was the first time many of the students had gotten the opportunity to travel outside of the United States.

“It was great to see so many students from diverse backgrounds get to know each other while visiting such beautiful locations,” Terrell said.

Anika Lovgren, one of the ambassadors for the program, encourages students who are on the fence to enroll.

She said the Student Global Leadership Program has strengthened both her leadership and communication skills in addition to providing an opportunity to visit multiple countries.

“As much as we wish we could bring the world to the classroom, we simply cannot,” Lovgren said.

“Employers want to hire individuals who have experience in the global community and the ability to work in a team. Both of these are goals of the Student Global Leadership Program,” Lovgren said.
