Volunteers Needed for the 2016 Haunted Science Lab

For the last five years, the ISU Society of Physics Students, the Kiwanis Club of Pocatello, and the ISU Department of Physics have hosted a Haunted Science Laboratory open to field trips from local schools, free of charge.  Volunteers from ISU, the Kiwanis Club, and the Pocatello community have provided educational, engaging and spooky science fun with interactive science exhibits and activities.  The Kiwanis Club has also contributed funds to schools for busing costs.  However, additional help is needed to ensure that this year’s exhibitions are a success.  The Haunted Laboratory will include a Van deGraaf generator, lasers moving to music, and lots of cool illusions.  Several exhibits use the same principles of those of Disneyland's Haunted Mansion, except that here they are explained!  The first meeting of volunteers will be at 7:00 pm in Physical Science Building, room 108 on Wednesday, September 28.  Setup and preparations for the exhibits will occur October 1 – 23.  Field trips will be October 24 – 28 and the exhibits will be open to the public for a fee on Saturday, October 29.  Proceeds from the Saturday event will go to Kiwanis supported charities for Children.  The Haunted Science Lab will be in the Robert Allen Building located at 300 N 5th Avenue in Pocatello (across the street from Robert Allen Auto, and next door to the former Les Schwab Tire Center).  To volunteer, donate funds to help defray costs or for more information, contact Reena Spradlin in the ISU Department of Physics at 282-2350 (spralare@isu.edu).
