ISU’s Veteran and Military Appreciation Week runs April 18-22

POCATELLO – Idaho State University is commemorating Veteran and Military Appreciation Week April 18-22 by featuring several events.

On Monday, April 18, Idaho Field of Heroes runs 9 a.m. – noon on the Hutchinson Quadrangle. This is an Idaho-specific Field of Heroes honoring Idahoans who have lost their lives for their country during service in Iraq and Afghanistan. 

On Tuesday, April 19, Veteran and Military Service Awareness Day, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., in the Quad amphitheater. The ISU Veteran Student Service Center with other support organizations from Southeastern Idaho are coming to provide resources, lunch and more.

A puppy-kissing booth is set for Wednesday, April 20, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., on the Quad. There will be a small fenced area for the puppies and students and tables for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and Traumatic Brain Injury Awareness Day. Donations are accepted for the fundraiser.

On Thursday, April 21, guest speaker David Abrams, author of “Fobbit”, will speak at noon in the Pond Student Union theater lobby. Abrams, military journalist and author of “Fobbit,” will speak on military life and his book. His book is a satirical look at life on a forward observation base in Bagdad, Iraq. Raffle and refreshments provided.

On Friday, April 22, Southeast Idaho Military Ball, 7 p.m.-10 p.m., at the ISU Pond Student Union Ballroom. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased online.

The week will conclude with Kappa Sigma’s Ride for the Troops Friday, April 22 at 4:30 p.m. on the Quad and will end 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 23. This is a fundraising event in support of the Fisher House, which serves veterans and their families who need extended service at Veteran Affair hospitals.
