ISU to host Start Smart salary negotiation workshop April 19 geared towards women for negotiating pay
April 8, 2016
POCATELLO – Idaho State University’s branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) and the ISU Gender Resource Center will offer a Start Smart salary negotiation workshop geared towards women on April 19.
Participation is aimed at ISU women seniors or graduate students, but community members may attend on a space-available basis. The workshop will be held from 2:30 to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19, in the ISU Pond Student Union Clearwater Room.
The salary negotiation workshop trains women to benchmark the salary of their first job and successfully negotiate pay that puts them on par with their male counterparts. Although fair labor laws have been in place for many years, research published by AAUW verifies that the gender wage gap continues to plague women. To address this problem, AAUW has developed training to better prepare women for a strong start in their careers and is partnering with colleges and universities across the country to sponsor the training.
The AAUW mission is to advance equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy and research. Membership is open to anyone holding an associate or equivalent, baccalaureate or higher degree from a regionally accredited college or university. ISU is an institutional partner of the Pocatello branch and students enrolled at ISU are eligible to receive a free e-Student Affiliate membership.
There is no cost for the workshop, but seating is limited, so pre-registration is required at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/
