Elizabeth Fore, Ryan Lindsay, and Jingjing Niu Present at National Public Health Conference

ISU was well represented at the annual meeting of the American Public Health Association (APHA) in Denver this week. Three faculty members from the Department of Community and Public Health presented their research at the largest national gathering of public health professionals. 

MPH Program Director Dr. Elizabeth Fore presented results from an intervention funded by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid that utilized bilingual/bicultural patient navigators to improve primary care access and utilization among Hispanic women and their children. 

Dr. Ryan Lindsay, in collaboration with a former ISU MPH student and career path intern Femi Abimbade, presented the relationship that more exposure to secondhand smoke in public places in Nigeria is associated with an decreased likelihood of having a voluntary smoking restriction within their home.

Dr. Jingjing Niu presented results describing help seeking behaviors, suicidal thoughts and behaviors among adolescent students in China, Taiwan, and Thailand.  The relationship between demographic and behavioral factors with help seeking behaviors, suicidal thoughts and behaviors were explored.
