Visions of America Film Series Continues in Idaho Falls
March 10, 2025
Idaho State University's Idaho Falls campus and the Museum of Idaho are proud to announce the next installation of the free film series, Visions of America, to be screened at the Idaho Falls campus.
All are welcome to attend. As part of the America250 initiative Semiquincentennial anniversary of the nation, PBS Books and the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) have filmed Visions of America: All Stories, All People, All Places, that, "explores our post-pandemic nation with a renewed interest in the places, people, and stories that have contributed to the America we live in today."
On Thursday, March 13, we will be screening A Journey to the Freedom Tower: Stories of Cuban Migration. This short film looks at the long history of the Freedom Tower at Miami Dade College and its role in welcoming Cuban exiles to Florida in the wake of Cuba's 1959 revolution. After the film, there will be a panel discussion on Latinx migration experiences in the United States with Osciel Salazar, Director of the College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) at ISU, and ISU Spanish faculty member Dr. Claudia Huerta Vera.
A Journey to the Freedom Tower will take place on the ISU Idaho Falls campus, in the Tingey Administration Building's Auditorium on Thursday, March 13. Doors are at 6:30 p.m., and the film starts at 7 p.m. Book sales from Idaho Falls' Winnie & Mo's Bookshop will be available and local organizations will distribute their information.
The last installation of this series will celebrate the innovations sparked by African-Americans in baseball and jazz music on April 10 by screening Discovering 18th & Vine in Kansas City. If you are interested in offering your expertise as a panelist or have any questions about these events, please reach out to the ISU-Idaho Falls Librarian, Aeryle Kuehn via email aerylekuehn@isu.edu.
