March 10, 2025

Idaho State University students swept the competition in the essay contest at the  Association of Collegiate Educators in Radiographic Technology Conference this spring.

The Royal Domingo Student Essay Competition is part of the Association of Collegiate Educators in Radiologic Technology (ACERT) annual conference. Each year as part of the RS 4450 Introduction to Evidence-Based Research course, students write a literature-review style research paper on a topic of their choice related to medical imaging. Students are then required to submit that research paper to the ACERT Royal Domingo Student Essay Competition.

“The Royal Domingo Student Essay Competition allows students in a radiological imaging program to submit research papers and compete with their colleagues from around the country.

The ACERT conference saw nearly 1,000 attendees, including about 650 students.

In a historic achievement for ISU, the university swept the competition, securing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for the first time ever:

  • 1st Place: Krista Roland-Mohan – "CT Imaging in Mummies: Exploring Radiology’s Role in Anthropology"
  • 2nd Place: Bobby Cunningham – "An Overview of Nuclear Medicine Therapy in Cancer Treatment"
  • 3rd Place: Maddie Nelson – "Understanding Developmental Hip Dysplasia: A Comprehensive Guide"
