February 19, 2025

Idaho State University is proud to host the 2025 HOSA–Future Health Professionals State Leadership Conference March 5-7, bringing together aspiring health care professionals from across Idaho.
This prestigious competition will take place on ISU’s campus, with the College of Technology and the Kasiska Division of Health Sciences collaborating to support the event.
HOSA, an international student organization, provides future health care leaders with opportunities to develop their skills through competitive events, leadership training, and career exploration. Around 1100 students from all over Idaho attend this three day event. The state conference will feature a variety of competitions which are organized into five key categories: health science, health professions, emergency preparedness, leadership, and teamwork. Participants will take part in a variety of competitions, including pharmacology, clinical nursing, CPR/first aid, job-seeking skills, and health education, among others.
Chris Owens, associate vice president for health sciences said, “This is the third year we have had the opportunity to host the HOSA Student Leadership Conference in Pocatello and it's always fun and inspiring to see the enthusiasm of these hundreds of high schoolers who are so committed to academic excellence and the future of health care. We love showcasing what we have to offer here at Idaho State in our many health-related departments and programs and are grateful to be part of this wonderful event.”
Faculty, staff, and students from ISU will play a key role in setting up the competition, organizing event logistics, and providing hands-on learning experiences for visiting students. The competition will be judged by faculty members from ISU, who will use their expertise and experience to evaluate each round.
Jennie Brumfield, health occupations co-chair and director of nursing programs at the College of Technology said, “We are delighted to welcome HOSA back for the third consecutive year. Working with the HOSA staff to host students continues to be a rewarding experience. HOSA provides students interested in various medical disciplines the opportunity to compete and showcase their skills. The competitions align with many programs offered at the College of Technology, creating a clear pathway for students to advance their medical careers. We look forward to hosting several events in the College of Technology's simulation lab.”
“HOSA’s mission is to empower HOSA-Future Healthcare Professionals to become leaders in the global health community through education, collaboration and experience. Idaho HOSA provides students across the state the opportunity to take what they are learning in the classroom and apply those skills to real life scenarios. In addition to job related skills, HOSA provides critical leadership skills students can apply as they enter the workforce. The HOSA State Leadership Conference serves as the gateway for students to advance to the International Leadership Conference in Nashville, TN in June,” says Gina Lyman, career technical student organization manager for Idaho HOSA.
The event will also allow participants to tour ISU’s state-of-the-art healthcare facilities and connect with industry professionals. Hopefully sparking interest and motivation to pursue an education in healthcare that will lead to a rewarding career.
A thank you to HOSA’s title sponsors: Idaho State University Kasiska Division of Health Science, College of Technology, and Early College Programs and our Platinum Sponsors: Idaho State University Fire Services Administration program, US Army, and Blue Cross of Idaho.
