Illuminating an array of technology and innovation opportunities, Idaho State University recently hosted around 2,800 middle and high school students at the 23rd annual Tech Expo. The ISU College of Technology unveiled a world where education meets cutting-edge career opportunities in the heart of Idaho. A combination of 79 college programs and businesses filled the ICCU Dome (formerly known as Holt Arena) allowing students to peek forward in time and glimpse the limitless potentials of their future. Students were motivated to look into career technical education (CTE) or science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) programs and careers.

This expansive event brought ISU’s cutting edge programs together with the community's industry partners to create a unique opportunity for students across the state. Discovery ranged from practicing virtual reality welding, to medical demonstrations of intubating state-of-the-art life like manikins. Other dynamic elements included operating a unified compression testing machine that can compress up to 120,000 lbs to test cement strength, and hand shaping an augmented reality sandbox replicating a topographic map through the Civil Engineering Technology Program.

Exploration and engagement are not all that was possible at the Tech Expo. Collaboration was also abundant as this was also an opportune time to network and build connections with ISU’s industry partners including event sponsors Titan Machinery and Modern Machinery, as well as Idaho Power, Premier Technology, Idaho National Laboratory, Idaho Central Credit Union, Western Aircraft, and many more.

"Experiencing the Tech Expo for the first time as dean has been truly remarkable. Witnessing the scope of the event with around 2,800 students from Eastern Idaho underscores its significance,” saidISU College of Technology Dean Jerry Anhorn. “Moreover, observing the hands-on demonstrations, which provide a tangible understanding of our various programs and the opportunities offered by local employers, is crucial for future ISU students. It is a privilege to be part of an event that not only showcases our capabilities but also fosters curiosity and aspiration among aspiring students."

The strong ties with the ISU College of Technology’s industry partners, as well as their 96% job placement rate, makes this a unique event for potential students to explore high-demand careers alongside those businesses looking to hire them in the future.
