Steam Tunnel Construction Update: Phone, Fax and Elevator Shutdown Friday, August 9

August 8, 2024

As part of the ongoing steam tunnel replacement project, communication outages will occur in the following buildings starting Friday, August 9 at noon: Engineering, Physical Sciences, Chemistry and Business Administration.
Friday, August 9 | Noon - 6 p.m.
A planned outage for copper lines will take place in the affected buildings listed above. This will impact communication over non fiber optic systems such as phones and fax. Elevators will be shut down due to the emergency phones being unavailable for call out if the elevator fails or stops unexpectedly. Fire alarms and card readers connected to a power source will remain active.
Monday, August 12 | 7 - 8 a.m.
Existing fiber optics (internet) lines will remain in place until the morning of Monday, August 12. ISU NetCom will be on site Monday morning to complete the final transition from old fiber to new fiber by 8 a.m. The contractor will run new fiber lines that will terminate on the same distribution box as the existing fiber. Once the cutover to new lines in complete, the existing ones will be disconnected and removed.
Details related to another outage planned for the end of August will be announced as new fiber lines are installed from the Library to Business Administration.
Thank you for your patience and accommodations as this project progresses.
