Position Announcement: Institutional Biosafety Committee Chair

February 8, 2024

The position of chair of the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) is open for applications.

The term of chair is for at least one year and may be reappointed. Although the IBC does not currently meet in the summer, the chair must be available for IBC-related business during the summer months. Compensation will be determined in consultation with the Office for Research and the individual's department chair and college dean, in an effort to meet the needs of the position and balance workload.

A knowledgeable and effective leader is crucial to an effective IBC. This individual has the full support of the Office for Research and the IBC Responsible Official. The chair plays an active role in the oversight of all IBC activities and responsibilities. The IBC Chair has the responsibility for overseeing the coordination and implementation of effective, efficient systems for biosafety protocol review by the IBC, in compliance with the Center for Disease Control (CDC) Biosafety in Microbiological and Biomedical Laboratories (BMBL) advisory document and the National Institutes for Health (NIH) Guidelines for Research Involving Recombinant or Synthetic Nucleic Acid Molecules.
