New Director of Teaching, Learning and Assessment

July 11, 2024

The Office of the Provost has announced Dr. Doug McGee as the new Director of Teaching, Learning and Assessment. He will begin serving on July 15.

McGee holds a PhD in political science from the University of Utah and previously served ISU as the coordinator of university tutoring. In this position he oversaw areas of student support such as the Writing and Math Centers as well as content area tutoring.

Prior to his appointment at ISU, McGee served as the Founding Director for the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence and Instructor of Political Science at Northern Wyoming Community College. In this position he crafted and led the mission to “support the institution in realizing its full potential as an intentional learning organization.” This mission translated into the creation of communities of practice where faculty could engage with and discuss best practices in teaching and learning.

McGee’s wealth of experience and commitment to student success will benefit our university greatly as he provides leadership and support for faculty professional development in effective teaching practices, instructional technology and student engagement strategies.

Laura Ahola-Young, vice provost for faculty affairs, says, "My position as the new vice provost for faculty and affairs and Doug’s new role are the result of Academic Affairs' commitment to supporting faculty and students. The hiring of this position has been made possible as a result of Academic Affairs onboarding new responsibilities previously assigned to Student Affairs.  We are grateful to the Division of Student Affairs for reallocating the funding necessary to create this position."
