Meridian Intensive Adult Program a Success
August 15, 2024
Meridian student clinicians and faculty conducted a successful Intensive Adult Neurogenic Program this summer, dedicated to aiding individuals diagnosed with acquired injuries or aphasia—a language disorder restricting language access, speech, reading, and writing abilities.
This comprehensive summer program offers invaluable opportunities for graduate student clinicians specializing in adult neurology. Participants engage in direct client interactions, gaining crucial hands-on experience.
In June 2024, MIAP welcomed 24 graduate speech language pathology students from a blend of online and on-campus Meridian programs. They collaborated with 13 clients, providing 180 minutes of daily therapy alongside two hours of group sessions. This immersive approach aims to enhance therapeutic outcomes and foster professional growth.
Supervisors included Dr. Victoria Scharp, Darcey Shalberg, Jessi Hardy, Amy Hardy. Campus support included facilities, IT, and other students. The clients, which included a handful of United States Veterans, offered invaluable contributions and experiential learning opportunities to this program.
Overall, MIAP empowers recovery and transforms lives for students and clients alike.
