ISU School of Performing Arts presents: "Sunday in the Park with George"

Idaho State University's School of Performing Arts is proud to present "Sunday in the Park with George" as the final theatre production of the season. Performances will take place on April 12, 13, and 18-20 at 7:30 p.m. in the Chick and Diane Bilyeu Theatre at Frazier Hall on ISU's campus. "Sunday in the Park with George" is a captivating musical that tells the story of painter Georges Seurat as he creates his masterpiece, "Sunday on the Island of La Grande Jatte." Through a blend of art, music, and storytelling, the audience is taken on a journey through Seurat's artistic process and personal struggles. With a score crafted with care by legendary composer Stephen Sondheim, this production offers a unique and beautiful experience for all theatre enthusiasts. 

On opening night, April 12, the traditional Afterglow reception will take place following the performance where the cast, crew, and artistic team will mingle with patrons, and refreshments will be available for purchase.

Director and theatre faculty, Vanessa Ballam, shared her excitement for the production, saying, "Steering this musical journey is a collaborative dance of exploration and refinement, where the artistic team, alongside exceptionally talented students, co-create a living tapestry of vibrant emotions and melodies."

Musical Director and music faculty, Dr. Geoffrey Friedley, expressed his enthusiasm for the show, stating "Audiences will love Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's ‘Sunday in the Park with George.’ Sondheim’s extraordinary sensitivity to his subject matter will be evident in our production, lovingly directed by Vanessa Ballam, with a largely student cast accompanied by a 13-piece orchestra. This show wiill offer quite simply something for everyone!"
