ISU Assistant Professor Presents Research at International Conference
January 29, 2024
Dr. Allison Roxburgh, Assistant Professor in the Teaching and Educational Studies Department at Idaho State University’s College of Education, recently shared her expertise at the Hawaii International Conference on Education in January 2024. Specializing in mathematics education, teaching, and leadership, Roxburgh presented findings from a mixed methods study involving 21 elementary preservice teachers. These teachers engaged with online learning modules focused on design and language features in digital math games.
Her presentation, titled "Preservice Teachers Evaluation of Design Features and Language Features in Digital Math Games for English Language Learners," aimed to enhance understanding of preservice teachers' awareness regarding design and language features when selecting digital math games for English language learner students. Roxburgh's results indicated that exposing preservice teachers to digital math game experiences positively impacted their awareness of design and language features. This preparation better equipped them to evaluate and choose games for language-diverse students.
In addition to presenting her research on the international stage, Roxburgh expressed enthusiasm for the opportunity to network with other educators from across the world. "I enjoyed talking with other professionals about the effective strategies they use to support their students because it provided new perspectives I hadn’t thought of before,” said Roxburgh. “I look forward to trying some of these strategies in my own instruction to better support my students.”
