Idaho State University Symphonic and Civic Bands To Present"Tales of Love" Concert

The Idaho State University Symphonic Band and Civic Bands are proud to announce their first spring concert of the 23-24 semester. "Tales of Love" will  feature beautiful love songs and melodies in honor of Valentine’s Day. 

This concert will feature Idaho State Clarinet and Saxophone professor, Dr. Shandra Helman on John Williams’ “Viktor’s Tale.” The program will also include modern band standards like Percy Grainger’s “Irish Tune from County Derry,” and Morten Lauridsen’s transcription of “Contri Que, Rose," along with some newer works by Jake Runestad, Carter Pann, and Ian McDougal. 

The Idaho State Civic Band will have four guest conductors on their portion of the program, including Director of Orchestra Activities at ISU, Dr. Nell Flanders; Director of Bands at Century High School and former ISU graduate, Jamie Burtosky; Director of Bands at Pocatello High School and former ISU graduate, Danny Roberts; and Highland High School Director of Bands, Andrew Wilson. 

The Civic Band’s portion of the show will feature tunes including “I Left My Heart in San Francisco,” “Solamente Una Vez,” “A Soul Set Free,” “La Cumparsita,” and “Petit café in Paris.” The program will also feature a new styled fugue arrangement of Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance.” 

Please join us on Wednesday, Feb. 7, 7:30 p.m. at the Jensen Grand Concert Hall located within the Stephens Performing Arts Center on the Pocatello ISU university campus.

Tickets for the concert are available through the ISU Music Department or at the door at the following prices: Adults - $8, ISU Faculty & Staff - $6, Precollege students - $4, and ISU students – FREE (with valid Bengal ID).
