FLSA Overtime Changes
May 23, 2024
On April 23, 2024, the Department of Labor (DOL) issued a final rule to alter the overtime pay regulations under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). The rule increases the minimum salary threshold for most exempt (not eligible for overtime) employees to $43,888 on July 1, 2024 and then to $58,656 on January 1, 2025. The rule also implements automatic updates to the minimum salary threshold that will occur every three years.
What does this mean for us?
Once this legislation is implemented, current Non-Classified employees with annual salaries below the threshold may become overtime eligible. This will require ISU HR work collaboratively with supervisors/managers to examine affected non-classified positions under this salary threshold to determine possible reclassification.
ISU’s Office of Human Resource is closely following developments on this final rule and will continue to keep campus informed of any expected impacts or changes to employees.
Separate from this, HR will be communicating upcoming changes to our annual compensation and CEC in the coming weeks.
Please direct any questions, comments or concerns to compensation@isu.edu.
