Emergency Medicine Conference 2023 Set February 8-10

January 8, 2024

Idaho State University Continuing Education and Workforce Training will host the annual Emergency Medicine Conference on February 8-10, 2024.  This year’s conference theme “It's All About Heart” will focus on the heart of EMS: the heart of the EMT, the heart of leaders, the heart of teamwork, and the heart of the patient. The annual event serves as a continuing education event for those in the health care field. Training/contact hours are available.  New this year will be a Wilderness Emergency Medicine Track.

This year's event will be MC’d by Pocatello Firefighter/EMT Bowen Curtis. We are excited to announce Jon Politis as the conference keynote speaker. Politis’s decades-long career as a Firefighter/Paramedic includes time spent as a Fire Chief, Paramedic coordinator, ski patroller, volunteer Fire Chief, EMS Rescue instructor, EMS leadership consulting, and a ranger in Grand Teton National Park where he serves as a member of the elite Jenny Lake Ranger’s Rescue Team.

The Wilderness Emergency Medicine keynote speaker will be Scott Guenther. Guenther has spent 32 years serving as a park ranger in the Grand Teton National Park. He has served with the elite Jenny Lake Ranger’s Rescue Team and served as the team’s leader for the past 13 years.

This year’s pre-conference (Feb. 8) is Resuscitation Academy taught by RA faculty Floyd Miracle and our Medical Director Dr. Sandy Curtis. Topics for the general conference sessions (Feb. 9-10) include High-Performance CPR, De-escalation techniques for Special Populations, Pediatric Cardiac Arrest, hands-on experiences such as exploring the heart inside and out, cadaver lab, Simulation practice, and much more.  The Wildness Tract topics include Wilderness Physical Therapy, Backcountry CPR, Backcountry EMS Response, and more.

The cost to attend the entire conference is $50 and $30 for one day. Up to 24 contact hours are available.
